Good morning,
As some of you know, the enhanced benefits with United Healthcare Vision (herein referred to as UHC) were due to be effective and implemented on October 1, 2016. UHC continued to have problems with implementation. There are two factors that caused the implementation issues. One is UHC has never changed benefits in the middle of a contract period, and the BMA contract was not due to be reviewed until 2017. Two, UHC has never “reset the clock” for benefits, as the BMA has requested and UHC agreed to. Our UHC representative, Richard Muniz, worked hard with internal departments there to get this resolved. UHC has completed implementation and has tested to ensure everything is accurate. Richard has asked for any member who has had to pay out of pocket for anything that should have been covered to contact him so he can work with each of them to reimburse the out-of-pocket costs that should have been covered and/or ensure that providers are paid the appropriate amount. If you believe you may have paid out-of-pocket for anything that should have been covered, please contact me and I will put you in contact with Richard Muniz.
On a related note, when members use the UHC Vision website you will see two plan codes upon log in. One is C1412, which is the old plan that terminated on 9/30/16. The other is F2896, which is our current plan with the new benefits. Please select F2896 when accessing the website.
Thank you,
