Management Services has opened the open enrollment period for BMA employees to select either the city’s VSP vision plan or the BMA’s United Healthcare (aka: Spectera) vision plan. You should be receiving a memo from Management Services soon. Be sure to read it carefully.
Here are some important points to know:
- You may only enroll in one of the two plans (VSP or United Healthcare)
- You may only enroll in either plan during this open enrollment period
- You may not make mid-year changes to either plan, with the exception of qualified life events (birth, death, marriage, adoption)
- You may submit a City Paid VSP Plan Enrollment Form to Management Services
- You may submit a United Healthcare enrollment to the BMA contacts: Brenda Castaneda or Steven Aragon
- If you are currently on the City’s Voluntary VSP plan and you do not submit a City Paid VSP Plan Enrollment Form to Management Services or a United Healthcare enrollment for to the BMA, you will be automatically enrolled into the City Paid VSP Plan
- If you are currently on the BMA’s United Healthcare plan and you do not submit a City Paid VSP Plan Enrollment Form to Management Services or a United Healthcare enrollment for to the BMA, you will remain on the United Healthcare plan
- The City Paid VSP Plan pays for the employee Only. You would have to pay $19.91/month for Two Party plan or $43.48/month for the Family Plan
- The cost of dependent VSP coverage is paid by the employee via a bi-weekly payroll deduction
- The BMA’s United Healthcare plan pays for family coverage with no employee payroll deductions
- Both plans cover dependents up to age 26

- Marriage certificates and/or birth certificates are required for dependent enrollment
